District Mic ยท Last updated: May 2026
The short version
We collect your Instagram handle and display name. That's it. We don't want anything else.
What we collect and why
When you log in as a host, we ask Instagram to share two things with us: your Instagram handle and your display name. Both are already public on your Instagram profile. We use them to identify you in the app and attribute events to your account. We don't collect your email, phone number, location, or any other personal information.
If you're browsing without logging in, we don't collect any personal information about you at all.

Device fingerprinting
To protect the community from spam, we use device fingerprinting โ a technique that generates an identifier based on your browser and device characteristics. We use this only to enforce rate limits on the report and endorse features. We do not use it for advertising or sell it to third parties.
Third parties
District Mic is built on top of several third-party services:
We don't sell your data to anyone.
- Meta / Instagram โ handles login and authentication
- Google โ provides venue search via Google Places
- Supabase โ hosts our database
- Vercel โ hosts the application
- FingerprintJS โ provides open source fingerprinting for spam prevention
- Cloudflare โ manages our DNS
We don't sell your data to anyone.
How long we keep your data
We keep your Instagram handle and display name for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, your account is deactivated immediately. You have 30 days to reactivate. After 30 days, your handle and display name are permanently deleted. Your events remain attributed to "former host" โ because they belong to the community.
How to delete your account
Log in and go to your dashboard. Select "Request account deletion." You'll have 30 days to reactivate before anything is permanently removed. To reactivate within that window, just log in again.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We'll never start collecting new types of data without updating this document first.
